Sandpiper Gathering I

Sandpiper Gathering I

A small flock of sandpipers gathers along the beach in this bright, painterly piece, with dune grass to one side and breaking waves behind. Quick, loose brushwork catches the birds mid-step, while lively strokes of blue and white build the movement of the water. The open composition leaves plenty of room for the beach and sky, giving the scene a light, summery quality. Sandpiper Gathering II follows a couple of the birds along the surf, extending the beach scene across both panels.
